Tết is still the cultural heartbeat of Vietnam. Streets fill with lights, families travel home, and households invest in food, gifts, and rituals that matter.
The rituals haven't changed at all. What has changed is everything that happens before the celebration begins.
For years, you could rely on the same formula. Wait until the final two weeks, run a sentimental reunion story, wrap products in red and gold, and push hard for sales.
That window is now the tail end of a decision that started months earlier. Vietnam Tet 2027 rewards brands that show up early, in context, and with a clear path to action. The old approach of waiting until the last minute won't be enough.
What Tet 2026 Really Told You
The headline from Tet 2026 is not an economic retreat. It's a smarter, longer, more digital shopper.
Spending held up. Around 84% of consumers spent the same or more than the previous year, and 62% spent the holiday at home with family. The rituals of reunion, gifting, food, and homecoming stayed exactly where they've always been. What moved was the preparation around them, which shifted onto digital retail and social platforms.
Three things became clear.
First, planning moved earlier. Tet search planning now opens a full quarter out, roughly three months rather than one or two weeks. By month two, orientation questions like "where will I be" and "what will it cost" give way to consumption and lifestyle queries. A main push that lands two weeks before Tet arrives after the shortlist is already written.
Second, Tet unfolded in multiple waves. About 68% of shoppers were in-market at least 20 days before Tet, and activity didn't stop at the holiday. Food and grocery buying rebounded afterward rather than ending with it, so there's no single burst to buy against anymore.
Third, tradition went digital. People stayed home with family, but the buying, gifting, and planning around that moment ran through short videos, livestreams, and creators. Roughly 90% of consumers now report purchasing through a creator or affiliate link, and Tet orders driven by livestreams and short videos jumped 61% year on year.
The Decision Journey Has Stretched
The old model of plan, evaluate, and buy no longer captures it. The 2027 journey runs across five distinct moments, each with its own mindset:

The point is simple: the opportunity moves as the moment moves.
Someone in the planning phase wants ideas and reassurance. Someone in the gifting phase is comparing options and worrying about how a gift will be judged. Treating both as one festive audience with one message is how brands miss the moments where the decision is actually made.
The signals bear this out. 36% plan 40 or more days ahead, 68% start shopping at least 20 days out, and 53% still make most of their purchases in the one to two weeks before Tet. Consideration builds early, and purchase intent intensifies late, so your plan has to cover the whole arc.
The Same Demand Looks Different on Every Platform
The same person wants the same thing across platforms, but they behave differently on each, so each deserves a different job.
YouTube is where research and decisions happen, through detailed reviews, recipes, and gift guides. Around 85% use Shorts in their shopping journey, daily viewing runs past 95 minutes in Vietnam, and time spent watching shopping content has grown over 500%. Lead there when a decision needs depth.
TikTok is speed and trend, built on discovery led by creators and quickly shifting festive behavior. About 76% are inclined to search, click, or add to cart after authentic content, and 95% say authentic creator content directly shapes their final buying decisions. Lead there when new Tet behaviors are forming.
Meta is research, scale, and validation. 53% of service purchases happen through messaging, and 44% of retail purchases close through official brand stores. Lead where Tet is shared across family and community.
Copying one post across all three is still the most common Tet mistake. Shape the role to the platform, and your media works harder.
Five Marketing Strategies for Tet 2027 Campaigns
1. Start earlier than you think you need to.
Put your first budget live in November 2026, three months out, and at the same point the consumer starts. Early consideration is when you can still influence the decision, while the final fortnight is when you're fighting over a shortlist that's already set.
2. Follow intent, not demographics.
Buy against what people are actually searching for, watching, and planning, rather than proxies for age and gender. Contextual intent tells you why someone is there right now, a signal no demographic segment can give you.
3. Plan by moment, not by launch date.
Change the message, the context, the KPI, and the platform's role as the consumer moves from planning through to the reset after Tet. One message for the whole month wastes the early phases and arrives generic in the late ones.
4. Connect every placement to a real action.
Awareness alone doesn't convert. Every contextual placement should have a path to product discovery and a measurable action such as attention, footfall, or lift, not just impressions. With social commerce now normal behavior, the distance between "saw it" and "bought it" should be as short as possible.
5. Reserve budget to adapt live.
Hold back 15 to 20% for what emerges during the season. Tet 2026 showed that new attention pools, whether a movie release, a trending sound, or a creator moment, can appear partway through, and the brands that can move budget into a live signal and capture demand that fixed plans miss.
The Real Tet 2027 Question
Vietnamese consumers haven't walked away from Tet traditions. They've simply started deciding much earlier and much more digitally. Festive decisions now happen inside content, over months, one small choice at a time.
The cultural power of Tet is still strong, and you'll earn attention if you respect it. This year's Tet campaigns will belong to brands that show up early, match the moment the consumer is actually in, and connect that moment to something they can act on.
The real question is no longer whether to show up for Vietnam Tết 2027. It's whether you're ready to meet the decision before the cart does, in the places and moments where your audience is already making it.
