A Global Sports Brand Aims to Align Message with Moment
Objective
A global sports brand set out to drive awareness during the Christmas season by leveraging thematic and contextual triggers tied to relevant interests and behaviors. Rather than relying on generic holiday creative, the brand wanted its message to feel connected to moments and personalities audiences already cared about.
Challenges
Cutting through the noise of the Christmas advertising season requires more than seasonal creative, since nearly every brand in the category is competing for the same attention with similar messaging. The brand needed to align itself with content and personalities that already carried trust and relevance with sports-engaged audiences, rather than adding to the seasonal noise.

Strategy & Execution
The brand's contextual strategy targeted competitor brands such as Nike and Adidas, along with leagues such as the NFL and NBA, placing ads where sports-engaged audiences were already watching. The strategy also identified contextual signals around brand ambassadors such as Jonathan Taylor and Loren Gabel, aligning the campaign with content tied to athletes the brand was already associated with.
Results
The campaign achieved a 79% view-through rate overall, with performance climbing even higher to 81% on influencer content. This gap between the overall VTR and the influencer-specific VTR highlights just how effectively the brand's contextual strategy performed when aligned with brand ambassadors like Jonathan Taylor and Loren Gabel. By placing ads around competitor brand content from Nike and Adidas, as well as league coverage from the NFL and NBA, the campaign was able to consistently hold attention throughout the Christmas season, a period typically crowded with competing seasonal messaging.
